GRAPPLING PROGRAM
Our grappling program is a non-striking program that contains two main disciplines:
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling.
Just like all classes at Danzig MMA, both grappling disciplines are taught with the functionality of an MMA mindset at all times.
This means that you will learn submission holds, takedowns and their defense from a realistic perspective, not merely from the sporting standpoint.
So, although these classes do not include striking, students will learn some striking awareness/defense.
BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
Jiu-Jitsu classes are taught both with and without a Gi.
Please see our schedule for which sessions are No-Gi and which are traditional.
Most classes consist of a warmup, technical drills, and a set of taught techniques or moves, followed by optional live grappling
(or sparring) if time permits.
Over time, students will become proficient in all aspects of Jiu-Jitsu, including submission hold defense, positional defense & escapes, body awareness, and offensive submission hold finishes & positioning.
WRESTLING
Wrestling teaches takedowns and takedown defense.
Elements of Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Collegiate wrestling are taught,
as well as elements of Judo.
Most Jiu-Jitsu classes include wrestling techniques if space permits.
Students learn the ability to set up and execute takedowns and throws, as well as defend them, becoming comfortable with upper-body clinch-work and stand-up grappling.
